Emerging from the heart of Perth’s heavy music scene, Broken Hymns blend the raw energy of progressive metal with intricate soundscapes and emotionally charged storytelling. Drawing inspiration from Karnivool, Queens of the Stone Age, and Dillinger Escape Plan, the band crafts a dynamic sound that is as hauntingly melodic as it is crushingly intense.

Formed eight years ago, Broken Hymns have solidified their place in the Australian heavy music landscape, despite an 18-month hiatus due to a lineup change. Now, with Caleb (vocals/guitar), Alex (guitar), Callum (bass), and Jess (drums), the band has re-emerged stronger than ever.

Following the success of their 2023 single “Cracks in the Sun,” Broken Hymns return with their latest EP, "Subservient" (out October 18, 2024). The release showcases their signature fusion of brooding atmospheres, complex rhythms, and ferocious intensity—an offering that cements their reputation as one of the most compelling acts in modern prog metal. For fans of intricate musicianship, raw emotion, and sonic storytelling, Broken Hymns deliver a visceral experience that lingers long after the final note.

CALEB MADER

Caleb was a founding member of Broken Hymns. His clear, clean vocals combine with his gritty screams to create Broken Hymns' signature sound. Caleb also sings in Perth-based blues rock band Mustard.

GUITAR

ALEX WATZEK

Alex joined the band in 2018. He brought plenty of new flavour to the band, using an array of pedals and techniques to create a whacky tone that is unique to Broken Hymns. Alex also plays guitar in Perth instrumental band Project Alchera.

BASS

CALLUM COLGAN

Callum is the newest member of Broken Hymns, joining the band in 2022 and helping to bring them out of hiatus. His bass driving the new sound that the band developed with the release of Cracks In The Sun.

DRUMS

JESS LAMBERT

Jess is also a founding member of Broken Hymns. She is currently endorsing Soultone Cymbals, Collision Drumsticks and Venom Drumheads. Jess also drums in Perth-based blues rock band Mustard.
